summary: The data set consists of maps of total velocity of the sea water surface current collected by the HF radar systems operated by CNR-ISMAR in the North-Western Tyrrhenian Sea and Ligurian Sea. The total velocity fields are gap-filled with the Open Boundary Modal Analysis technique (OMA). The presented datasets were produced by the European HFR Node in the framework of the EU H2020 JERICO-S3 project, for feeding the HFR D2PTS Gap-filling Thematic Service of the JERICO-CORE Resource Catalog. Data are averaged over a time interval of 1 hour around the cardinal hour. Surface ocean velocities estimated by HF Radar are representative of the upper 0.3-2.5 meters of the ocean. The radar sites are operated according to Quality Assessment procedures, and data are processed for Quality Control and standardized in their format according to the European common data, metadata and QC standard model for HFR current data. Data access tools are compliant to Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), Climate and Forecast (CF) convention and INSPIRE directive. The use of netCDF format allows an easy implementation of all the open source services developed by UNIDATA.
